  • 5,9.5 x 21.5  x 2.75 eps , twin keel with trailer , winged square tail simmons esque shortboard fish hybrid thing
    Pros :
Paddles and catches waves like a longboard . A lot more snap off the top and hold off the bottom then the twin keel version . Less top end speed but more aggressive lines ( relative to a fishy platform board of course ) . If you like a round nose fish or lost rocket type this really is not too far from these types of boards with the exception of being able to catch waves even easier . If riding a weird looking board but  getting in deep and or early and going fast and throwing carves are not your thing then this design is not for you . able to get slotted no problem and get barreled . good on floaters and m sure a ripper could do airs and revrses and what not as easy as a reg shortboard .It is a real section maker and sets up shacks /coverups you didnt think exsited .

    Cons :
on late takeoffs like any fish the board can cavitate a little and the tail can get loose and cause air drops . As long as you are mindful of that you are Ok . When the wind picks up a bit this cavitation or looseness in the tail off the bottom if not a full rail initaited turn can cause some spin out . Even thought he board really feels a lot like a reg shortboard you really have to turn it more on rail and not off the fins or inside tail end rail .
Because it has a fullish wide eggy nose and is EPS /epoxy and very light  on hard offshores the wind can hold you up a bit so have to take off deep and late and cant take advantage of the early roll in as easy .You will probably piss a lot of people off by the ease of paddling and wave catching the board affords . Under the hands of any fit , aggresive experienced surfer you have a potentially lethal combo .

In the type of slopey loong rolling groundswell we have been having this thing is eating up waves and sections like a ravenous cannibal.

  • I'm more and more intrigued by these things the more I read about them, but I feel like they are just too short for me.  The shortest board I ride now is a 6'8" twin fin fish.  I'm 6'7" x 265 or so.  Does the EPS/Epoxy make that much of a difference in flotation that you're able to drop that much length off the board?  I'm not super fit, but I am a decent surfer, sort of a classic weekend warrior, has-been, used-to-be, maybe never-was, etc.  Problem is if I ordered one of these, chances are, I would probably order it bigger than average and then I would be unable to sell it if I don't like it.

An expensive experiment... I'm sure you'd be able to get rid of it if you didn't like it. But you'll probably love it.

  • rode her all day yesterday , and she handled size well . Def dropped into some waves im not going to call DOH but at lest 3-4 ft OH . LOng period rolling swells , causing a lot of very strong surfers to miss a lot of the set waves or have to take them way way deep and a roll and jack and closeout often was the case this not the issue with a simster. Riding this board is almost like tow surfing as you have the extra glide to get you in that fraction early and be able to set up the steep takeoff on your feet , kinda like bomb dropping into a bowl on a skateboard.

Is riding this board cheating , well yes . Does it catch waves like a log yes . Is it weird looking yes . Does it go faster than any board you have ever riden yes . The question to ask yourself with these simmins shapes is this . Are you really a modern day shredder who kills it on a 6'2 squash and is 24 yrs old ? If yes then move on . Are you a solid surfer who looks to draw more classic lines throw  a few cutbacks , set up for the barrell , high line like Terry Fitz at Sunset, do high line side slip takeoffs on big sets or airdrop in and draw a 20 yard warp speed bottom turn on rail ? If yes then i would consider giving Joe Bauguess a call . the Simmons is for fun sized loggable fishable waves . The Simster  under the feet of a surfer who knows how to use his rails on takeofff and off the bottom can be ridden in just about any thing the east coast can throw at us .

Oh and for the 6'0 and under aerial set . On thurs , in the side onshores I was able to boost two airs one actually landing on the top of the wave and falling the other not even close . Yesterday on a big closeout section also able to boost one and lose the board coming down . I guarantee with al the speed these little water skateboards deliver a surfer/skater who isn't an old bald creep like me could def launch serious airs .
