OK so Last night I actually got to enjoy it a bit. The waves were great, they werent mushing only to jack up at the last second throwing into a closeout so I had some lines & took advantage. I got into quite a few but I have to say Im still a little perplexed. The take off seems a bit weird, I cant seem to get a decent head start. Im just not where I want to be. I want to get into the face of the wave to start pumping for speed but this board seems to want to go for a longer straight bottom turn that I find myself loosing speed. I mean you know when your take off feels right & Im feeling like Im just not getting the sweet spot on this board.

Then once I finally get up on the face & want to start pumping, it feels light & almost like it just doesnt want to go if I have a little weight towards the back. Now if I lean forward a little, i thought this should help it rocket but the rail engages like a snowboard & I feel it kinda turning when I just want to pump for speed. Im sure I need more time to really dial it in, but Imreally confused. Ive never had this much trouble on a shortboard. Maybe I should try to quad set up that it allows & see how that reacts.

What do yall think, maybe the Quad fin setup will help stabilize it?

And we all know we love to get her in the face! Grin Seriously, I think I should try it out. Its kinda squirreley. maybe it'll help it dig in better on the bottom turn. Its got a bit of a diamond tail.

lol  Grin definitely try it, that's why you got 5 fin boxes on that thing! i would run it as a tri when it's BIG, stabilizing with the center fin for a bottom turn, and the juice would give you plenty of speed...when it's smaller but fast where you want to get in quick (like last night sounds like) you can angle drop and be hooked on the face with the quad setup...but what do i know, just talking brown trout yo Grin

I'll agree with Seb on this one...But I have to say one thing.....   welcome to the world of shortboarding.  mOst of the time you won;t be in the sweet spot. It takes some time to get the hang of that. ANd if your NOT riding it all the time it will take longer. there is a reasn why all of us who are decent , shack, ron, jeff....me, we never rode longboards. we were always used to not getting in the wave earlier.....dont worry. you'll get the hang...  be patient with it.

I did pretty good, Its just so light, Im not used to not being able to feel a turn. I got 1 where my pop up & take off seemed to start of perfect but by the time I was looking to get up higher in the ave again to start pumping for speed, I kida lost the speed. Maybe I need to get lower. I'll have to keep it going. Last nights sesh was all shortboarding till the wind was killing me on the take offs, then I switcvhed to the LB & rode the 2nd hour on that. fatty fun tubes! its def a lil weird with the rails. Maybe I also need to stink bug a lil or something, get my stance apart a bit. I'm gonna throw the extra fins on tonight.

I know not what you speak of. I wac atually going to ask if adding a little bit larger middle fin would be a crazy Idea. I feel like its too skatey as a tri. Would that help, if they even make a bigger center for a short board like this?

well, the next thing would be to play with different fins...but try it as a quad first, see how that feels since you already have the fins to do that.

definitely put in the quad set up. that will give you more gas as soon as you stand. (disclaimer, i only have "twinzer knowledge")
also, tits is so on the $$$. to avoid the really big bottom turn, which is what makes me fall behind the peak time and time again, super angle your take off and DIG HARD. you have to make up for the lost length of the LB by paddling harder than you even think you can. i feel like when i don't do that i end up kinda late and then doing a lame bottom turn etc etc
anyway, i say this like it is so easy...i only got "straights" yesterday b/c of the hideous wind.
