  • anyone else smell it??? today was a bust, tomorrow could be too, and if things work out like they do here in NY, Earl will be long gone early friday night, with 30mph+ west winds howling for 8-10hrs overnight, we should wake up to dribble left sat AM.....after weeks of huge expectations, this is how many stories have ended before.......

Trust me I am praying for a better ending....sorry for the downer...but I got skunked today big.

  • I also have seen the likes of earl he will blow by us at 25 to 35 mph and the west wind will leave a dirty diper behind .

  • I agree, Earl will likely have a fat, ugly backside - so I'm going to concentrate on his frontside and get on it early.

And for the record, I hate that storms are named after guys. They should have left it alone, and let all the storms bear women's names. There's something so totally wrong about it to me. I'll spare the rant on why, but am I alone with this? Anyone else feel this way?

  • If the trade off is a dry basement in exchange for waves, I'll take it.

  • No I mean this swell, just need to know when and where to look. And the end of September? There's three named storms in the Atlantic right now and another big wave coming off Africa.

    ding ding ding!!!!!!!!

I took time yesterday to fix the loose rain gutter and do some of that caulking around my leaky old windows yesterday. I'm not looking forward to any kindof direct hit or a glancing Blow even!!

  • Maybe knot this earl but go back and check some records in my journal TS earl in 98 crossed over from the gulf{ it was a hurricane then} . Out over to the atlantic south of hatteras once back in the ocean it regenerated from 40 mph up 75 and slowly moved through our window and for 2 days sent perfect hollow 4 to 6ft barrells grinding off the western jetties and i scored 2 amazing off shore sessions sept 5th and 6th . sometimes less is more .

As a newbie surfer I give Earl's frontside a thumb's up this morning (thank you wind)-but tomorrow looks like a mess.......

  • some fun ones in the dirty this morning at first light.  no wind and some dumpers, but still some good rides.  wind picked up a lil outta the north when I was getting out.  should still be fun, but a little more textured.

  • Had a bunch of fun yesterday, and the day before, actually, but today is out for me.  Bummer for sure, but it doesn't look like I'm missing epic conditions anyway.
