  • if all it takes is $5mill to start an artificial reef that might protect the coast and bump up the surf then that's chump change compared to the $2-3 mill it costs every 2 years going back decades to fill in the beach to protect against coastal erosion, know what i mean?

  • Well, they're happy enough with theirs in the UK to try and hold a surf comp at it:

    ***************
The first surf contest to take place on Europe's only artificial reef was announced today.

Organisers hope some of Europe's best surfers and bodyboarders will come and test out the South Coast reef in a men's open, 35+, ladies open, and under 18's junior contest on March 20 and 21.

Construction finished on the £3 million reef in Boscombe, Dorset, last November after bad weather delayed it by more than a year.

They weren't very favorable to a sand pumping option similar to the Tweed River Project (created the Superbank) either when it was brought up 5 years ago. Total cost for that was 5 million or less- a ONE TIME cost. They'd rather scratch each others back for the millions in guaranteed work by dredging every few years.
I am wracked with such hearty guffaws, that in addition to rolling to and fro on the floor, my posterior has separated itself from my body.

  • Boscombe, for better or for worse, is basically a bodyboarding wave.
