  • Hard to believe it's been since years since the famous March 11th swell - damn, time flies.

I know what it looked like first hand, and first hand I've never seen anything like it around here in my lifetime, but I dont recall what the buoy numbers were for the day. Anyone know how it "officially" stacked up?

  • Buoy 44065's data doesn't go back that far, but 44025's does.

  • I had just started surfing regularly in NY.  I was thinking, wow, It really does get super good in NY.....I know Little Nasty has all the stats for that day.......I recall that the Rocktober swell was pretty close, but not as long period.

  • I'm still waiting for someone to repost the pics from their place that showed the bombies towards the inlet.
I am wracked with such hearty guffaws, that in addition to rolling to and fro on the floor, my posterior has separated itself from my body.

  • Killarney's wave as Photo'ed by Nellie out East possibly as big as famed 3/11 swell . I'll spare you the gratuitous pic of that swell but the west end was also super clean and sick but nowhere near as big as Killarney's east end beach break Pipeline lookalike

  • Got the best barrel I've ever gotten in NY on that day.  Kicked off the back and there were about 8 more double O plus headed straight for me...

I will never forget that day, that wave, or that swim.

I was trying at first light that day. Not cool.. Shallow right next to the rocks with an inpenetrable wall of waves pushing thru. I got out to about waist deep and then just waited for a lul that never came. Then I had to go to work. Only time I ever got denied there.
Welcome to Rockaway.. Now Pick up some litter and go home.

  • Spot where NorthStreet and I surfed. I was somewhat new to New York at the time.

You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.
