Just found out I have to be in San Fran Monday. I plan on flying out tomorrow which gives me sunday to do as I please. Can anyone give me a quick lay of the land? I'll have a car and definitely not opposed to driving. I guess i'll need to be near a break that has a few shops as Im going to have to rent a board. This is my first trip out there and no pretty much nothing about the area(will have my trusty gps though).

Thanks for the help.

looks like you're gonna score some pretty fun surf. there's waves all over the place, and plenty of shops. do dome googling and you'll be fine.

Check out Nor-Cal Surf Shop in Pacifica, about 20 minutes south of San Fran. on the PCH. Great shop.  They can point you in the right direction and have a pretty decent selection of boards for rental.

Santa Cruz is not to far, about 1.5 hour drive on the PCH and the drive in itself makes it worth the while.

if you have the whole day you may as well go down to santa cruz. it would make a great day trip, and yeah, the drive, plus the breaks, and the overall atmosphere can be pretty special.

ended up checking out pacifica...I don't know if the place rocks or I just hit it right but it was amazing. Thanks for the heads up. Was about shoulder high at 17 seconds, you didn't even need to paddle the waves had sooo much push and the lines held up forever. Was my first time surfing in ca and definitely not my last

I have been to Amoeba in the Haight, didn't know there was one in Berkely also.  Great record shop.  I can spend hours going through the concert posters there. . . good stuff

I liked Pacifica alot also when I was there definately a good spot when its on.
