good point, but people are responding to the initial intent not the finish. These situations come down to intent. A gun held without an intent to use it may not be much of a deterrent to some if they sense the gun holder will not pull the trigger - the old guy most likely knew he couldn't restrain these guys physically so he walked out with the intention of shooting them - even told the 911 operator he intended to do it instead of waiting for the police (anyone know the average police response time in that community?). He decided he would rather go to jail or get shot himself (assuming he could not tell if they were armed or not) than have people think they can break and enter into his neighborhood homes - that is not your typical I don't want to get involved or get in trouble response. I'm not sure if this serves as a deterrent there in Texas but I know first hand that it worked for the neighborhood around Gotti's place in Ozone Park back in time. I mean who really wants criminals forcing themselves into their or their little son or daughter's window at night or their neighbor's family home? - the stuff taken doesn't matter - it's the potential of what can develop if they enter when you are home that matters and that scares the hell out of young and old alike. Him getting off does give him a pass (he had no way of knowing if the jury would indeed let him off when he made his decision) but it is a perfectly legal pass.
Listening to the 911 calls ,I think he was well aware of the law ... he even explained his rights to the operator.Incidentally , the police arrived within minutes of him killing these two men . Personally , I think this guy was a cold blooded murderer and the decision by the grand jury not to charge him doesn't make me feel better about the world we live in.... if this had been two teenagers from his community breaking into an empty house and being shot in the back , I'm sure the community would have a different take on the outcome. |

None the less, had they been cought, they wouldve served a few years if that in prison. Not died. The punishment doesnt fit the crime. Bottom line. Its texas, its effed up there & as are Presidents example shows, Texans get away with murder. If your anything other then a whitye redneck with a gun who loves to kill stuff, move out of Texas. If your not a gun loving bible binjing racist hateful cowpoke, dont go to Texas. And for crisakes, saty outta Texas if your anything but white, your askin for it.

Seriously you are correct & the majority are black, and there are more cases of mistyake idenetity or wrongful deaths in Texas since theyve developed modern forensic & DNA testing then any where elsein this country. They want blood before justice, just they culture there. heck if your white & arent a gun toting dumb ass redneck, Stay away from Texas!

I think the philosophical divide in Texas isn't much different from the rest of the country , the original poster being an example Look at the Obama results in certain parts of Texas ... Austin , which is a fairly progressive city. |
