  • Hitting Nicaragua in April . I know Maderas and Popoya goes off, any advice on Nicaragua. Staying in San Pablo del sur then renting a car for travel maybe even jump on a boat.

  • hey this is my first post but I was in san juan del sur and surfed both maderas and popoya.... those are the best in that area but you should also hit up playa yankee and see about taking the bus to costa rica for some warmer water... playa hermosa, witches rock, and pavones are the best spots in costa rica.

  • theres a hotel in san juan del sur near the big church/school/playground up on the hill a little bit thats like 26 bucks a night for 2 queen beds tv and air conditioning... its about a block away from the italian restaurants. Make sure you eat breakfast at big wave daves in SJ del sur.

i think i took this pic at playa yankee or popoya

and I think this was at playa maderas

Thanks TJ We are crashing a friends house in San Juan del sur but I heard up north is the way to go. Think a break called colarado goes off and is very consistent. You know any info on it ?? We are thinking about taking a boat trip to The Iguana hotel, its a little pricey but heard it pumps! We are going to Costa afterwards hopefully Pavones all pending on the swell report. Thanks for those pics looks like you caught it going off Im jealous!! Thanks for the info keep it coming if you have any info on the North.

  • Just spent a week in Nica in Jan based out of SDJS.  Awesome country, so much fun.  We hit Maderas, Colorados and Panga Drops.  Mostly maderas because it was close and super consistent.  The day we went over to yankee and ramanso it was totally flat so it wasn't working but yankee is supposed to be a nuts wedge when it picks up.  The way the water was moving on a flat day was pretty weird, can't imagine it on a big day.  My friend hit it last year and said the wave reflects off a rock, wedges up and you surf it away from the beach and out towards open ocean.  Supposed to be pretty sick.

Maderas is a blast of a beach break.  Fast, consistent, lefts & rights.  Just watch out for some of the locals, especially this guy:

He can be a real unfriendly character.

I'd definitely say it's worth it for you to make the trek up to colorados/panga drops (2 breaks on the same stretch of beach).  Unfortunately you need to get a pass to rancho iguana to get to them (or a boat) and that costs a bunch of money, but they're both sick spots.  Panga drops is pretty deep but with some big rocks under the water that make it break big and mushy under small swell.  Colorados wasn't working when we went up that way.

Other than that have a blast man, you're in for a great time.  Lemme know how popoyo is if you hit it.

  • I flew american airlines out of newark international.. i dont think there are any direct flights offered from AA they all stop at miami or houston..Defineteley the best prices but board fees are just okay.. I ended up renting a board for pretty cheap from this guy Jeszi who runs popoyosurfreport.com.. stayed at rancho santana but there are places to stay for much cheaper around the area.. Santana goes off during high tide tho!
