Been a few times over the years - both pre/post surf habit.  Also filled time there with some pretty hectic rafting, kayaking, yes the canopy zips, hikes, etc.  Stayed in one small town on pacific side and one on caribbean side that could fit the bill of what you're looking for.  I'm sure you won't be short on suggestions/recommendations, but PM if you're still looking -- could easy dig up some info.

Booked flights with my gf for the first week in June. I was first thinking about the santa teresa/mal pais area but am a little sketched out by things I've read. Plus it's kinda of a bitch to get too and the puddle jumper/board fees/cab rides start to add up. Hows Guiones as far as getting to and wave quality?
