  • It looks like British Airwars Lost my boardbag, luckily with only one surfboard and a wetsuit.

What can i expect going through the claim process? I figure the board, bag and wetsuit are worth about $1000. Do i have a good chance of recovering that money?

    thanks.

  • Found this on the British Airlines site.
    Hope it helps.

Destruction, loss or damage to baggage
The air carrier is liable for destruction, loss or damage to baggage up to 1,000 SDRs (approximately £820 or EUR 1,230). In the case of checked baggage, it is liable even if not at fault, unless the baggage was defective. In the case of unchecked baggage, the carrier is liable only if at fault

  • If they give you any guff, just remind them of the good ol' USA coming to bail out their limey teabag butts during WWII.

    They'll come around.

  • If there's a baggage tag, they will find it.
Your bag is sitting in a hangar somewhere, its just a matter of them finding it.
    Don't expect a speedy turnaround.
So heavy you can't even pick it up.

  • fwiw..  i think BA and AA code-share... and so if confronted with a flight run by AA but ticketed by BA, head straight for the BA people and ignore their requests to take it up with AA

  • Continental once lost a little over a grands worth of snowboard gear, all my clothes and my wifes, gortex jackets ect..adds up quick.
Let me add I got every penny of it back.

File the claim promptlly on the 10th day.  Have as many receipts as you can have ready, go back to your credit card statements if you need to.
Add up all the little things too, wax combs, hair products, ect. Note them, have proof of purchase.  Get  an adress to send the letter too. Proper forms if they provide them.

Start calling, be polite, if one person wont help, take their name, and ask for their supervisor.  Save all of your conversations by taking notes and marking down the dates.

Once again BE POLITE! DO NOT LOOSE YOUR TEMPER!  They can really eff with you.
If you signed a release waiver you might be screwed.

Why do I know all this? Because my father was the guy on the other end of the phone, He was a passenger agent for United for almost 30 years.
PS He effing hates United so bash away, LN knows why as concerning the stock debacle..

along these lines, nowadays i always tape calls to customer service on the mp3 player.  it's interesting to see the difference when you start a call with, "thanks for helping me, just want to let you know i'm recording this call."

btw, i happen to be working on a project to help people like your father who are getting screwed out of their pensions through corporate bankruptcies..

Good on ya.  Not to hijack the thread, but I really think that is the worst of the worst.

BTW, I've never lost a bag.

  • Thanks. I just got off the phone with BA and it looks like i'm fucked. They said they assume no liability for the value of items in the bag and will only reiburse by weight at $10 per lb. well considering the fully stuffed bag only weighs 35 lbs. that's gonna get me $350 bucks for a thousand dollars worth of stuff.
