I'm not sure we will ever get the real details of what happened but You have to give Props where Props are due, without firing a shot 14 hostages were rescued from the FARC. That's pretty cool. After years of being held hostage these folks get to move on with their lives and be with their family.

It all sounds so James Bond-y.

Anyway, that's all, I just thought this was amazing.

I don't know. I could have just been a brilliant plan on the armys part.

Then again, the truth will only come out when no one gives a FARC anymore.

Regardless, good to see. Amazing they did it without violence which bodes well for the many other hostages being kept by the FARC.  Too bad it's taken this long to get some of these results. Don't forget the brutality by these thugs on some very good New York folk (to name a few) a few years back.

The woman who was freed, Ingrid Bettancourt, seems like an amazing human being.

Did anyone see that one of McCain's major contributors was deeply involved with payments to the murderous AUC(?) militia when he was an executive with Chiquita?  He has some very unsavory characters among the top people in his campaign.  One of his top guys had been a PR man for the Burmese junta.  Its a little bit of pot-kettle-black for a defense lawyer to point fingers, but how do you get up in the morning and go to work when work means polishing the image of one of the most repressive dictatorships in the world.

Anyway, didn't mean to go so far afield.  This is terrific news.

if you knew the whole story I dont think you would be so quick to "give props" to the same individuals whose action/inaction caused many delays.  They wouldve been freed atleast 6 weeks prior if not earlier due to the Colombian military...
If you think it was just the Colombian military acting on their own who put a close to this, then you need to look a bit deeper and realize theres a lot more going on here

Wait a minute here...you're not suggesting that the NY Times didn't get the whole story, or may have some factual inaccuracies, are you??  Wink

I love the Monday morning coaching staff routine. Classic, typical, smug. I love that sh1t. Cracks me up every time.

I'm sure your countless "https secret agent man" websites have the entire full intelligence story, including the Puerto Rican CIA spooks that speak native Columbian Indian dialects, and how fake Red Cross uniforms were used and how blackout helicopters crowded the jungle that day.

You must feel so important knowing so much, being able to see behind the matrix and all. That awesome Neo. Thanks for letting us know you know it all.

I do need to grow up. I couldn't disagree with you there.

I'm sure your buddy told you every top secret detail of the operation because lord knows the guys on the ground get every memo on everything and are fully informed of every operation. Right.

Your buddies story not withstanding I still stand by my comment

I don't have to pretend to be in the know to fluff myself up. I think what is important is that these folks are free and are getting on with their lives.  6 weeks after a 6 years of being hostage seems like a drop in the bucket.

Im not pretending to be in the know, whats the point of that?  If youre in NC traveling down I-95, take a 10 mile detour to Ft Bragg and I can give you the nickel tour of where I work, who I work for, and what I do.  If you come here within the next month I can introduce you to the man I was referring to above and you can pick his brain.  Not everything out there is Top Secret.  Youve been watching too many movies if you believe that.

I can agree on the 2nd to last sentence that their freedom and not the details is the most important part of this.

^No interest in Fort Bragg, been there, done that.

If you can get me into Area 51, I would take you up on that...
