thanks again for the warm wishes all!

Duke, you would not believe how great my DukeStorm sweatshirt is for nursing!
Josh and I are swaddling ninjas.

uncutproducts, I got sent in for an emergency c-section at 4AM. My water broke at 7:30AM the previous morning, ~12 hours of back labor, 3 hours of pushing, the combined might of Nate's head and my pelvis broke the vacuum that the Dr was using as a last *Eastern LI* attempt to prevent a surgical birth. Jammycast wasn't kidding when she said I was battered!

Ankelslapper, when we met I was about 6 weeks pregnant already. although I didn't make it out of my heat, was it cheating to have been "surfing for two"?  Grin

It is amazing how much this little guy changes from week to week!

yeah, it was a bit of a bummer when my midwife recommended calling in the OB and I wasn't thrilled about use of the vacuum. When the cable snapped Nate got launched most the way back up. He was occipital posterior*, coming down at an angle that's very hard to deliver...sort of a square peg, round hole scenario. I spent almost a week doing exercises to try and flip him, he turned early in labor and turned back.   I had a midwife, a doula and 3 nurse-midwives working with me to get this guy out. If it was possible for Nate to make his entrance out the front door these ladies would have made it happen...they were incredible.

I'm rockin' a hotsling until Nate doesn't have baby bobblehead anymore and then I'm probably going to switch to a babyhawk or an ergo. (there's a natural/attachment parenting friendly store near me so I get to try things on, so cool!)  Does your ladyfriend have a favorite upright front carrier? My husband carries Nate around in Snuggli his Mom wore him in...70's green, so retro!

*Cautionary note to those thinking of having babies. This position my boy was in was likely attributed to my problems with sciatica. I had not been to a chiropractor in quite some time since it wasn't bothering me. Please don't neglect your spinal health and posture during pregnancy!

whew. sounds rough. she's a pouch/sling/wrap kind of girl. i think she might have a babyhawk though. i'll PM you her email, she's pretty knowledgeable about it. also check out thebabywearer.com for some good info. i like carrying nicky around in a ring sling and she seems to like it too. if you ever make it to williamsburg you should give her a shout as she's got a pretty good quiver of obscure baby wearing things that you could try out. she's home all day and loves this kind of stuff.

i went to get one of those sling things from that store on houston and they wanted 325 bucks or something.  I looked at it and laughed my way out the door.

anyway, thanks for the links for other options!

We had a baby bjorn.  Almost never used it.  There is so much junk for babies you can waste your money on.  Second time around the process was much more streamlined.  I kind of think our parents' generation had it right.  Less is more.  Babyproofing is now a growth industry.  Humbug, says I.  They have soft skulls for a reason.

Jen, that sounds like some labor.  Glad to hear you're on the mend.  Maybe see you out at Upper Crowdies sometime soon?

LN, My sling was around $50. you can get them cheaper but I really like the local natural parenting store and try to give them as much biz as possible. The owners have been so giving with their time for us parenting kooks. Nate sleeps in his sling a few hours a day while i do stuff around the house. He does not care for his swing, much prefers to ride around with Mom while she sways to music.

Bubba, you will see me at upper crowdies soon with my neon orange boogie board and no flippers!
It's going to be a few more weeks before I can start surfing standup again.

Duke, Shenaz also brought back my MX books...glad they gave you some sweet visuals. I hope we get to use them again soon too. I will take you up on those drinks this fall!
