got this in my inbox today

The Travelzoo Newsdesk has found this outstanding offer from
Major Airlines:

NEW YORK--MAY 27, 2008-- We just noticed that a few major
airlines quietly lowered their prices from Newark to
Honolulu to as low as $299 roundtrip-- including taxes!
This is more than 50% OFF what we normally see to Hawaii.

We found these fares are valid Monday-Thursday in September
and October, November 3-6, and December 8-11. Please note
that these PRICES COULD DISAPPEAR AT ANY MOMENT. We
wouldn't be surprised if they were all gone very soon after
this email.

Since these deals are available from many airlines, it's
best to check prices on a few Web sites to find the best
deal.

To search multiple sites at once, we recommend using
Travelzoo's SuperSearch tool, where you can easily compare
many sites without entering your information over and over.

Is HI really all that. I've seen films and pictures of the Island, but is it really worth it?
I here its super expensive, extreme localism, super crowded, and lots of SPAM! So whats up?

Continental is the usual from Newark if you want to go direct {and I do}. They have no problem with a multi board bag and I think it was 80$ charge. Coming back I checked at the curb, gave some local boys $25 bucks and they hooked me up saving me $55. Direct will cost you about an extra $150 round trip but to me it's worth it. Your boards don't change planes, you don't spend hours in LAX or some other airport.....Some people are fine with the two stage flight and actually prefer it since you're not on a plane for 11 hours straight.

that's just one of my issues with the transfers. besides the added surfboard tossing, you can't even be sure they will toss it onto the right plane. Friend of mine went to HI with transfers and ended up losing his boards for a WHILE. At least in Hawaii/Oahu you can get used boards pretty easily and cheaper than a lot of places.
