So it was 11am this morning. decided to go for a session in the box since there was a brown trout load of seaweed and the waves were terrible at the main break. there were about 10-15 people out in the box. the surf was perfect. nice rights off the jetty. just fun nice sized waves. so about 25 minutes into the session, the lifeguards start blowing there whistles at us to get out of the water. what i dont get is there was no one swimming, so whats the problem with us surfing? so we all just ignored them. then the green goblins come. yes i call them the green goblins. lol aka the parks department. they attempted to get us all out of the water too. but again we just ignored them. then before we know it there are 4 cops waiting on the sand for us all to paddle in. im guessing the green goblins called them since we werent listening to them to get out of the water. still at this time there were no swimmers in the water. maybe there were 2 or 3 but they were not near us. so in the end the cops ended up kicking us out of the box and forced us to surf the main break. whats the damn problem with us surfing the box?!?! if there is no one swimming, whats the problem. yeah so once they kicked us out the box, that was the end of my session. there was no way i was surfing the crowded, seaweed infested, main break... thanks a lot green goblin assholes!

.....if there is no one swimming, whats the problem....
This is the part I dont get and never will. Why cant they use a modicum of discretion, like they do in other jurisdictions?

When you first got the City to open surfing at 90th Street, they were clear it was only 90th Street. You are now surf anywhere you want when the lifeguards are not on duty. The city is looking the other way as long as things do not get out of hand by surfers who don't listen. The lifeguards have their boss to answer to and so they do as they are told. If you want to change how they treat the semi-rainy days of the summer you should form a group that will interact with the head lieutenant of the main shack. See what can be worked out. You also have to realize it was a holiday weekend and the public officials are going to come to the beach. Nobody want to be fired for being nice to the surfers because it was a rainy day. This was the same problem when I grew up in Rockaway. After the lifeguards came on duty we were called out of the water. We would change to rafts and Styro boards. If it was a holiday weekend or any weekend we weren't allowed in with them either. Learn to work the system to get what you want. Putting the lifeguards job in jeopardy will only make him kick you out earlier the next time he gets down the beach. They will work with you if you work with them.

Back in the day the life guards didn't bother us much when we surfed the box, but since it got so damn crowded and with the creation of the Surfers beach its been such a tight @ss situation over there. I miss the life guard chair bein in front of the main break, the guards used to watch my sh*t and they kept an eye out on the surfers when it was hairy. BTW on Friday at about 12 I had a great time at the main spot, caught lots of waves and had tons of fun goin around the obstacles, Seaweed sucked but thats Mother nature for ya.

some really weird laws are being out into place sicnr the "surfers beach" I just found out today that toy can't ride your bike on the boardwalk between 10 and 6. Also, you cannot sit at the surfers beach I'd you are not surfing. I noticed the goblins asking people to move. The beach is friggin empty. WTF? I undatstand that there is no swimming obvisously but why restrict people from sitting at certain spot. Its stupid. Too many rules. Too Manu people telling you what to do or where to go. fark that!

That would be an VERY interesting test case. I may have to come down without my board some day. Bubba you available. You need some pro bono work, right? As to the bike riding.... I was questioning that yesterday. There were both bikes and dogs all over the boardwalk and both are prohibited. It has always been that way frrokie. Just take a half hour or so to read the list of rules that are posted by most beach entrances.

I think we might have this one beat...
Around 4ish today some people got their bags stolen. So what's the best thing a NYPD police can do, she walks around warning people that she will write them up for leaving their bags un-attended. I had a long talk with her, she is low on the totem pole of power but really..does she really wonder why some locals might think that is a waste of time?
PS, She also thought that the Dayton towers were the projects, she had no idea where Hammels was even located...

We ned more topless surf girls. I wonder if there were more if anyone would bother surfers again. You'd ook like a jerk kicking topless out of anywhere, let alone arresting em. (By the way its completely legal for any woman to be topess in a NYState park since the mid 90's) Come on gals take 1 for the team! Boobs for waves!

Just take a half hour or so to read the list of rules that are posted by most beach entrances. Exactly! ^^ I knew the rule about the bikes..but it was never really enforced. Also, why cant they just make a bike path like they have in LB. simple easy solution to that one.
