Attention Artists, Photographers, etc.
Rich McMullin is trying to organize a fundraiser for the Haiti relief effort and he wanted to reach out to the art community and see if it was possible for anyone to donate some of their art to auction off.
Prints, paintings, books, sculptures, CDs, DVDs... Anything that might help raise money to support the relief effort.
As of right now, Rich is working with Nick Bricker here in NJ on putting together a local fundraising night. His primary goal is to have items available to auction off on that night. No date has been set as of yet, but they are looking into some venues and hope to have something set for early February. That should give them some time to organize any donated items, get some companies to help sponsor it, and promote the hell out of it.
There are a couple of Charities that Rich would like to raise funds for (and he is open to suggestions for others):
The primary one, PAZAPA (
http://www.siloe.org/ ), was brought to his attention by Ryan Miller. It is located in Jacmel, Haiti which is about 30 miles Southwest of Port Au Prince. Jacmel, like so many other towns, has been devastated. Ryan just learned that the PAZAPA Center was destroyed in the earthquake and will now have to be rebuilt.
The Red Cross (
http://www.redcross.org/ ) is another charity Rich would like to support. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have appealed for $100 Million in aid for Haiti. While their immediate concern is to provide emergency aid to those affected, they are also "very much committed to being involved in the rebuilding of Haiti once the relief operation winds down in six to nine months..." In addition to their efforts in Port Au Prince they are also trying to aid those in less reported on neighboring towns such as Gressier, Carrefour, and Leogane.
If you have any suggestions or questions he is all ears... Feel free to call or email him at any time.
And please pass this on to anyone you know that may want to contribute to the effort...
