So I got out of the water the other day, took a look at my fin and.. it wasn't there. FCS plugs, one of the side fins broke and the pieces are still in the plugs. Three fins. Is it possible to move the middle fin to the side and ride it like that, or how much would a new fin cost? I'm hoping I don't have to buy a new set of 3.

You really shouldn't move the midle fin to the side. It's not made to be anything but a middle fin. Look at teh remaining side fin. I's probably flat on the inside and foiled on the outside and leans to the outside. The middle fin is straight up and down and foiled on bothe sides...

What you need to do is Ask at a surf shop, or from one of the other users here if they have the missing fin you are looking for. It's a FCS fin?? Which side and What's the model or Style?? I'd figuer it's not going to cost you very much.

OK, ok.... So maybe multiple fins are a good thing.

Is the box in good shape?
If so, then you're in good shape. I'm sure someone has an odd G5 laying around.

depending on the model you can buy single fins on wetsand. however, with shipping, it is about half the price of a whole set, or more...i decided it wasn't worth it. i'd rather buy a whole new set and try out a different fin while i'm at it.
if your fins are cheap composite (black plastic) just post up in the for sale/wanted room. i bet someone will sell you a single side fin. be specific--which side broke, what model, etc.
ebay can work to get a cheap used set, but most of the fins on there are new and full price.
by the way, be glad the fin snapped, that is the point of fcs...better than the fin ripping out the whole fin plug

If you buy a whole set, you may not want to spend that kind of dough, but you'll have two extra in case that happens again..... or you can look at it as a total fin upgrade, with two extra old fins left over....

I'm a bit of a packrat myself, but I love the fact that if something like that were to happen (when my leashes get stretched I replace them, and keep them) during an evening sesh, you can go home, fix the problem, and still be out first thing again in the morning.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. Sweet forum, I should visit more often. Anyway, I see the difference in the fins, but I'm thinking it may not make a huge difference for someone like me. It's on a fun board that I really only use when the waves are small, or I'm teaching a friend to surf. Would using a center fin on the side really mess them (or me) up that much? They are the cheap black plastic kind, G-AM maybe? Just completely forgot.. Yeah, I'm definitely glad the fins are replaceable on this board as they aren't on the other one that lately I've been using more frequently.  Undecided I'll check in with a few local shops within the next few days to see what they have, and buy a new set if I have to.

The advise was free, but the lessons are priceless.

By the way, when you do get the fin and put it in
Check to see that it is at the proper angle (aka the reverse of the opposite fin)
If the angle is off that means you broke out your fin plug system..

That I would advise taking to someone to fix.

I stopped by a local shop and they were able to hook me up with a fin for a couple bucks so it's all good now. Surfed it today, went fine. Thanks for the help. Smiley
