I'm about to book tickets this weekend. Since we want to keep it European, but with waves, and not ridiculously expensive, we've settled on either the Azores or Iceland. Paying $3000 in total for flights and hotels alone for either. Which should we do?

Actually now that I just researched Azores, I'm kinda torn. Azores seams to be an interesting place and looks beautiful, BUT the main source of economy for the island is tourism and cattle. It doesn't seam like there is much culture in comparison to Iceland. In Azores you will probably be surrounded by British, German, etc. tourists. So actually I'm sticken to my first choice of Iceland.

three votes? three friggin votes? help me people. i must really purchase tickets this weekend.
Iceland
pros: - been to iceland twice and i'm tied into the surfing scene - direct flights from JFK - amazingly, Kronur is down against the US dollar - great natural sightseeing - razor sharp, lava reefs abound - plenty of surf and empty lineups
cons: - 5/3 is still a necessity - razor sharp, lava reefs abound
Azores
pros: - springsuit and light 3/2 (my fat ass could probably skin it) - cheap once you get there - great natural sightseeing - razor sharp, lava reefs abound - plenty of surf and empty lineups
cons: - direct flight out of Boston or Providence - razor sharp, lava reefs abound

Did you book it? I'm kind of surprised TAP doesn't offer a non-stop to the Azores from Newark.
Of the two, i think I'd go Azores over Iceland. Surf seems more accesible in the Azores.
