That wave, to myself for five days, until I couldn't move my arms. This video captures about 60% of its length, missing the drop and first turn or two and, because it wasn't one of the bigger set waves, missing the final 20% that I didn't ride in this video because it would've dumped me into a fierce current that goes straight into a rockpile. Robertsport is an uncrowded, tropical J-Bay for Goofyfooters. If anyone is thinking seriously about going (tickets will probably not be less than $2,500 and the visa is $131, to say nothing of shots and other expenses), talk to me and I'll let you know some good ways of doing it.

They also get solidly doh quite consistently in july and august. yeah. and it's so uncrowded you actually start to miss other surfers.

Holy CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! How long is the flight and where do you fly into? That place looks unreal.
Best price as of now for a late August depart and return in Sptember seems to be $2,711 RT from NYC. Can you live on $5 a day?

You can get the late august depart and early september return for $2,300 (try ITN for the NYC-ACCRA part of the trip and buy direct from Kenyan Airways for the Accra-Monvrovia part) and you could potentially live on $5 a day. but some considerations:
the visa is $131 safe transport from the airport, night in monrovia and safe transport to robertsport cost $150 but once you are in robertsport, if you are okay walking into town to eat local food, you won't need more than $5 a day for food you'd need to get permission from someone to camp on the beach and you'd probably need to pay someone to watch your stuff while you surf.
it isn't a cheap destination

yeah, good eye. I've been considering that spot. problem is that it is about three miles out on that skinny sandbar. you'd really want a 4x4. it's also a river mouth, which makes the current insane and the sharkiness much more likely. still, if someone drove me from town, I'd try to hit it. Usually though, the five points further south are so sick, steep and reliable, that you wouldn't bother moving further north. the fresh fish is excellent in the right hands. other animals are disappointing--mostly pig's feet and the rare beef intestine. not the world's best assortment of vegetables. some really good stew and pounded rice flour type dishes. I'm heading back there with Shenzi for the last week of August and the first week of September (more or less the time of year that Sliding Liberia was filmed there--if I'm not mistaken). I should have better pictures and a more detailed report of round two . . . i'm so stoked to get on those points again. Cheeeow!
