Winter Surfer’s Lament

An Original Work by SeaCliff, as originally posted somewhere, sometime back in 2003.

On the eve of Spring, I offer this look back at winter surf experiences. As much as this is a song of lament, I find myself regretting the fact that there weren’t enough days this past winter like the one described. Who knows, one day I may even publish the accompanying music.

Winter Surfers Lament

Aka: “Down the Line”

Down the line

Down the line

Takin’ what it gives

Down the line

Shoulders burn

Face is chilled

I’ll take it and learn

Down the line

Nice shape faces

Northwest, gusty

Mostly winter empty spaces

I’ll take it, I’ll earn it

Down the line

Chorus:

Down the line

Down the line

Takin’ what it gives

Down the line

Reminded on each winter swell

What it takes within ourselves

To live in this cold cold hell

Knowing I’ll still take it when I can

Down the line

Down the line

Down the line

When can I get on it again?

Down the line.

(Repeat and fade)
